PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
